Work in Schools

I have a lot of experience in school settings and I have been able to explore how the imagination of children of all ages can be nurtured and nourished. I create innovative sessions for primary schools and pre-schools that include themed story circles or longer story workshops. During a workshop we explore one particular myth or fairy tale and the adventure unfolds with storytelling, movement, music, visualisation and role play. To enhance storymaking and recording I offer book-making, weaving and sewing projects and the making of story objects or props.

I am available to visit schools for a day, or for longer residencies. I like to work with a school over a period of time as a higher quality of story work takes place as the images and story language can settle and take shape within each child, and relationships can form.

"Carol did a remarkable job of engaging all of the children with her beautiful and spell-binding story telling. She was always very positive, calm and gentle in her approach with all the children ... Every child's contribution was noticed, praised and valued."

"The stories were fun to listen to..."

"...I loved how you told them."

"...the main thing I liked was the Story Space because we could dress up as characters."

"...I really enjoyed making our beautiful sketch books."

Story Space Training in Primary Schools.

Explore the art of storytelling and storymaking in practical and engaging sessions. There are holistic activities designed to develop confidence in storytelling skills. There'll be plenty of encouragement to experiment with stories both as a group and individually.

"I just wanted to say a big thank you for the storytelling course at the weekend. I really enjoyed it. Having the space, time and focus to look deeper into storytelling was just fantastic. It allowed me not only to consider how I could incorporate the techniques into my classroom but also how I could use it on a personal level. The fact that there were just a small number of us made it a close sharing experience...it was very relaxing and gave me a different perspective on how to work so creatively." Primary School Teacher, Tewkesbury.
