Sensory Stories

Colourful and playful multi-sensory workshops designed for children and adults with complex learning needs. Using carefully chosen stories and a range of exploratory activities these sessions encourage the participation and creativity of all members of the group. Together we create a gentle and magical Story Space and set off on an exciting imaginative adventure. These workshops are held in schools, residential homes, or community settings and are 1 to 2 hours in length.

Please contact me for further details.

"She has developed sensory stories and activities which leave space for the children to find and apply their own imaginations to the scenarios and resources she brings. The creative processes she devises make the children co-explorers, with magic and the unexpected being the driving forces in a totally inclusive experience. "
Mike Scott, Brays Special School, Birmingham.

Inset and Development Sessions

I offer inset sessions in Storytelling and Storymaking Skills in Special Needs Settings, and creative sessions exploring Pupil Voice.

"We have undertaken a rigorous enquiry into what "Pupil Voice" means in a Special School where communication is a barrier for the children. Carol has done important work, supported by leading experts in the field of Special Education."

Recent Projects include:

Brays School. I have worked alongside staff, students and artists at Brays School since 2007. Brays is a primary school in Sheldon, Birmingham, for children with complex needs. It became a School of Creativity in 2009 and an introduction to our innovative work on Inclusive Drama and Storytelling was exhibited at The Festival of Britain. A dvd has been produced and will be available soon. Projects include "The Story Fairy," "The Snow Queen," and the "The Soundmakers."

"In The Garden." Story Circles at the Kielder Centre at Bishops School, and a Sensory Story session in The Bridge - a specialist centre for pupils with autism.

"Arts Week." Sensory Story Workshops at Orchard School, Sandwell.

"Story Time." At Martha Trust. Hereford. A home for profoundly disabled young adults.

"Story Time" and a CPD session for Speech and Language Therapists at the Ross Road Centre, Hereford.

"Stories from the Web." Session at Oscott Manor School for 11-19s, with Birmingham Central Library.
